• I provide guidance and assistance with regard to network design, security, and data backup.
• I am responsible for developing a method for maintaining all relevant security patches
• I am responsible for migrating current data to the new production environment utilizing MS SQL Server 2005.
• I am responsible for developing a Continuity of Operations Plan (Disaster Recovery Plan) for the organization.

Nov 2005 – Present; I.T. Consultant; Hamlin Tool & Machine Co.

• I provide all levels of IT and computer support. Hamlin has a network of 4 servers (Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and UNIX) and 55 PC's (NT Workstation, 2000 Pro, and XP Pro). They run Windows Exchange Server 2003 and have 2 servers running MS SQL Server 2000. AIM Vision is the ERP system which integrates with MS Dynamics Great Planes. Hamlin also runs ADP and E-Time software.
• I'm responsible for all system upgrades and patches, network security, antivirus, backup & recovery, pc repairs, system administration, and user assistance.
• Recently upgraded the ERP system to the latest revision; AIM Vision 9C.
• I supervised the configuration and installation of a new 2003 Server domain controller. This included migrating to 2003 Active Directory, and 2003 Exchange Server. We also upgraded to Symantec Backup Exec version 10 and Symantec Antivirus with Groupware.
• I implemented new T-1 and Business Phone services from AT&T. This saves Hamlin over $400 per month, while providing a faster and more stable environment than with their previous provider.
• I implemented a Cable Internet Connection to ensure 100% uptime for Hamlin’s EDI processing. As a tier one supplier to the automotive industry, Hamlin must have redundant internet access for Electronic Orders and Shipping Notifications.
• I supervised the switch of EDI processors to save on transaction fees and improve customer service.
• I helped automate Hamlin's inventory by utilizing handheld barcode scanners rather than hand written paper tags.
• I recently setup a server with Windows Server 2000, SQL Server 2000 and Minster's PM Connect. PM Connect is a web based monitor which communicates with the stamping presses. It helps Hamlin track press efficiencies, part production, machine maintenance & repairs. This helps Hamlin improve their OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiencies).
• I developed and presented training classes for the ERP system used at Hamlin. The AIM Vision application was installed at Hamlin in October 2005, but the users needed additional training to better utilize their labor reporting and equipment efficiencies.
• I continually evaluate Hamlin’s business processes to develop more efficient ways to utilize the ERP system to help cut labor costs and improve on plant efficiencies.

Sep 2004 – Oct 2005; I.T. Consultant; Total Inspection Services

Total Inspection Services provides construction inspections for banks and mortgage companies. The business uses many paper documents, and is very labor intensive.
• I installed a server running Windows 2003 Small Business Server.
• I set up one Domain Controller with Active Directory, DNS, System Wide Backup, and Secure Remote Access via VPN connections.
• I provided training for the users, which included Document Processing with Excel and Word, Virus Protection, and Remote Access to the network.
• There are three workstations, 3 networked printers and up to 5 remote VPN connections.
• I utilized the built-in firewall capabilities of the router, and implemented a 128 bit wireless encryption key, and MAC address filtering to provide the greatest level of wireless security.
• I restricted access to the network with port filtering which allows only incoming VPN connections and outbound web only access.
• I was responsible for the network security, antivirus, operating system upgrades and backups.
• I installed Winfax to eliminate the need and expense of an external fax, saving the client on paper and fax printer cartridges.
• I created Excel Templates so the client can create all deliverables online eliminating 80% of all printing and faxing of documents back to their end customers. This also saved money on paper, printer cartridges, and long distance fax calls.

2003 - 2004                    Computer Consultant                      Truckee, CA

Network installation and configuration for a local doctor’s office.
o I installed a server running Windows 2003 Small Business Server.
o I set up one Domain Controller with Active Directory.
o I installed and configured 5 workstations running Windows XP Pro.
o I set up the system wide backup, which backs up data stored on workstations as well as the server.
o I configured MS Exchange with the POP3 connector for their business emails.
o I pulled and terminated all network and telephone cables.
o I installed the Network Closet with a small business punch panel from Levitan.

Network assistance and configuration changes for a local travel agent. Educational Discovery Tours organizes trips nationwide for high school students.
o They had many problems on their network due to errors made at installation.
o I had to reconfigure their firewall, MS Exchange, and network backup.
o Their network runs Windows 2003 Small Business Server, with 10 nodes, an ISDN connection to the Internet, and 5 VPN connections utilizing Microsoft Terminal Services.
o I provided desktop support and operating system upgrades.
o I provided consulting services for their website.

1997–2003                    Tahoe Forest Hospital                        Truckee, CA

Network Administrator

• I was in charge of the entire network which includes over 400 nodes and 600 users, and a server farm with over 15 servers.
• I evaluated and advised on all hardware and software purchases.
• I created and maintained the original network at the hospital, which included running cables, installing workstations & servers, installing software, etc.
• I developed and presented multiple training workshops for our users including; Windows for the Novice, Advanced Windows Techniques, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
• I was responsible for the system-wide backup and recovery for servers & user data utilizing Veritas Backup Exec, and the AS400 tape backup system.
• I was responsible for Internet security and system-wide Anti-Virus, utilizing multiple firewall applications and Symantec Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition.
• We upgraded the network from Nortel 10bT to Cisco 100/1000bT. This included running fiber-optic cables utilizing Gigabyte transmissions throughout the hospital.
• We Upgraded our Network from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 with Active Directory.
• We installed wireless network to out-lying buildings using Cisco equipment with strong encryption.
• We installed & maintained multiple T-1 Internet Connections and incorporated multiple levels of firewalls. Cisco PIX (hardware based firewall), Cisco IOS (software firewall on routers), and Microsoft ISA Server.
• We utilized many different server software packages including the following: Windows NT, 2000, and 2003 Small Business Server. MS Exchange 5.5 & 2000, MS SQL 7.0, MS ISA Server, Sybase SQL Server.
• We installed an IBM AS/400 Server running the First Coast System for Health Care Providers.

1996–1999                    Lake Tahoe On Line, Inc.                   Tahoe City, CA

Founder / Owner / Operator

• Lake Tahoe On Line was the FIRST Internet Service Provider in the entire North Lake Tahoe Region. We offered local dial-up access and website hosting services.
• I obtained over $30,000.00 of private investment capital to start LTOL.
• I researched, purchased, and configured all hardware and software necessary.
• I started with a Linux Server running the Apache Web Server, and Sendmail Email Server.
• I upgraded to Windows NT 4.0 running IIS, and Exchange 5.5.
• I provided personal in-home training and assistance for my customers due to the fact that LTOL was their first entrance into the world of the internet.
• I provided all technical support, systems support, and operations.
• I developed two web based applications using Active Server Pages linked to Access Databases to allow minor data entry and retrieval over the Internet. (Before it was called .NET)
• I maintained the company books, and completed all tax forms and corporate documents.
• LTOL grew to over 500 dial-up accounts & over 50 web clients. I sold LTOL to another local computer consultant in early 1999. I was able to return all investment capital with a modest 8% gain.
• Lake Tahoe On Line is still one of the most popular Internet Provider in the Lake Tahoe area.

• I was responsible for all computer upgrades, maintenance, & training

• I started and maintained our Service and Repair shop utilizing local vendors and Radio Shack Partners.

• I was contracted as the Technical Project Leader at Ford Motor Company.
• The project was to develop a new system for Ford’s Extended Warranty Program on IBM Mainframes in COBOL and DB2 Relational Databases.
• I was in charge of hiring programmers and analysts.
• I was in charge of developing the project standards for system specifications, and basic programming structure.
• I was in charge of giving all major presentations to the Ford Management Team as well as the Customers.

Advanced Systems Engineer

• I began as a Programmer/Analyst, and worked my way to Advanced Systems Engineer.
• I completed EDS’s System Engineer Development Program (SED) in my first year.
• I started out supporting many older computer systems for General Motors Assembly Plants. Many of these systems were written in COBOL, and used ISAM and VSAM data files.
• I advanced into the Design and Development of new computer systems for a consolidated Billing and Accounts Receivable System.
• Most work was done on IBM Mainframes in COBOL and DB2 Relational Databases.
• I worked with all levels of management, giving project updates and status reports.
• I worked with much of our customer base to help them with their system testing and training.
• I helped develop many technical training courses for our programmers.
• I created many technical documents for our systems and procedures.
• I often volunteered to be involved with our OS Upgrades which involved developing detailed testing procedures to ensure that our customers were not affected by the upgrades.
• I was involved with many Disaster Recovery projects which were designed to ensure program and data integrity in case of major system crash or other disaster.
• I volunteered for many community projects including the Explorer Program which gave High school Kids the opportunity to explore careers in Information Technologies.
